Puppy and Kitten Advice
Register a new puppy or kitten with Best Friends Vets and our qualified team can give you all the advice and guidance you need to give them the best start in life. Our team will guide you through the vital first weeks and months of pet ownership.
Our vets and nurses will see your puppy and kitten during the first few weeks of their life for vaccinations and health checks. After their final vaccination, we will let them settle in at home and not request to see them for a few months however, you are more than welcome to bring them in for cuddles and advice at anytime.
Neutering your pet
Unless you are planning to breed from your pet, Best Friends Vets recommend you neuter your cat or dog due to the many health and behavioural benefits it offers. Neutering is called ‘castration‘ in male animals and ‘spay‘ in female animals.
Male dogs can be castrated from 10 months of age onwards and female dogs are spayed 3-4 month after their 1st season. This could be anywhere between 7 – 18 month depending on their breed and individual development. Kittens (male and female) are normally neutered from 4 months of age.
There can be benefits to delaying neutering depending on their breed/behavioural development. It can therefore be beneficial to discuss appropriate timings with your vets or nurses at Best Friends Vets.
